My teaching interests closely reflect my research program. My overarching teaching goal is to improve political-economic literacy and global awareness among students. I build and use simulation-based undergraduate course modules and incorporate new tools for assessment. Focusing on active learning, my outreach goal is to develop educational opportunities in political economy and quantitative methods for students and scholars from diverse backgrounds.
I am particularly interested in using cutting-edge technology to improve student learning. GradeCraft, a revolutionary online platform for the gamification of higher education, powers all of my courses. Instead of starting from 100 and defending their points, students start from 0 and have many opportunities to "level up" through the courses. This grading structure provides students with a sense of growth and a fun way to take in course materials. On a course evaluation, one of my former students mentioned that GradeCraft with its gamification feature is "a heck of a drug" in that the student kept looking for additional assignments and activities to achieve a desired threshold. Driven by this powerful incentive tool, my courses feature a diverse menu of activities and assignments from which students can choose to accommodate their preferred learning methods.
